Berlin will host the UEFA Champions League final for the first time after the Olympic Stadium was announced as the host of the 2015 final.

It will be the eighth time Germany has hosted the final with Munich, Stuttgart and Gelsenkirchen all having been chosen in the competition’s history in both its guises – the European Cup and the Champions League.

The 74,000-seater stadium in the German capital is the home of recently promoted Hertha Berlin but has never been used for a major European final, despite hosting the Olympics in 1936 and the World Cup final in 2006.

The National Stadium in Warsaw was announced as the host of the 2015 UEFA Europa League final, the first time that a city in Poland has hosted a major final.

UEFA also confirmed that they will introduce a 10-match ban for incidents of racism by players on the field in any of their competitions.

There will be increases to the bans handed out to players found guilty of insulting or assaulting match officials. Insulting a match official will now bring a three-match ban and assaulting a 15-match ban.

The governing body said that clubs whose supporters are found guilty of racist offences will face partial closure of their stadiums for a first offence and full stadium closures for second offence plus a 50,000 euro fine.
