Besiktas have appointed Mustafa Denizli as replacement of coach Ertugrul Saglam, who resigned earlier this week.

Denizli, 58 years old, has signed a contract for one year at the Istanbul-based team, and is the first manager to have led all major teams from the Turkish metro pole.

The manager began his coaching career at Galatasaray in 1987. His rich resume also includes a stint at Fenerbahçe and two spells with the Turkish national team.

“I have worked at Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe but, as a boy, I was always a big fan of Besiktas,” said Denizli.

“I’m very excited to be here. I wasn’t able to play for them, but to be head coach of Besiktas is one of the best offers I could have had in life.”
