(GSM) – Galatasaray may well lose their top spot in the Turkish Super Lig this weekend after being held to a 1-1 draw at Besiktas.

Sunday’s Istanbul derby featured two teams for whom winning was vital. Besiktas desperately needed a victory to keep realistic title hope, while Galatasaray feel the pressure of second-placed Fenerbahce.

After 68 minutes at BJK Inonu stadium, it was away side Galatarasay to break the deadlock through Arda Turan.

But that goal would not be enough for his team as Besiktas levelled the score with a goal from Tomas Sivok with eight minutes to go in regular time.

Fenerbahce now need a win over Bursaspor on Monday in order to conquer the Turkish lead.
