Turkish newspaper Sabah Sport understands that Besiktas are hot on the trail of Benfica full-back Lorenzo Melgarejo.
The Eagles seem prepared to cash in on the talented defender this summer, with Liverpool among clubs showing interest in his services.
However, Sabah Sport has learned that Turkish giants Besiktas have moved to the front of the queue for the 23-year-old.
According to the same source, the Black Eagles are ready to meet Benfica’s €6.5 million asking price, but they would also gladly sign the player on loan should the Eagles opt against selling him outright.
Lorenzo Melgarejo, who joined Benfica from Independiente Campo Grande, arrived at Estadio da Luz as an attacker, but was transformed into a left-back by coach Jorge Jesus.
After scoring 10 goals in 29 Primeira Liga games while on loan at Pacos Ferreira, the Paraguayan made 21 league appearances for the Eagles last season, scoring 2 goals.
