(GSM) – Turkish giants Besiktas have made a swoop for Werder Bremen striker Hugo Almeida.
The announcement comes by the Turkish side following the signing of Simão from Atlético Madrid on Wednesday.
Werder Bremen, who were unable to meet the Portugal striker’s wage demands, have now sold Almeida to Besiktas for a fee of € 2 million (£1.7m) rather risk losing him for nothing when his contract would have expired.
Almeida, who has scored 11 goals in 20 games for Werder this season, has scored a total of 63 goals in 176 games for the Bundesliga side while racking up 12 goals in 33 international appearances for Portugal.
Besiktas are currently way off the pace in the Turkish championship as they lie fifth, 14 points adrift of leaders Bursaspor after 17 matches.
