Real Betis are watching the situation of Carles Alena at Barcelona with much interest, according to Marca.
The 21-year-old is no longer registered for Barcelona B and can therefore play only for the first team, which was apparently a big gamble on his part. At this point in his career, the midfielder needs game-time to develop properly, but he isn’t getting any at the moment. He started the season as a member of the starting XI away to Athletic Bilbao after making 27 appearances in all competitions in 2018/19, but he hasn’t played at all since that day. He was planned for a more prominent role, but Ivan Rakitic remaining at the Camp Nou changed things to his dismay.
The situation seems to have caused Alena to start thinking his future over with the January transfer window in sight, and Betis are ready to take advantage. With him looking for minutes on the pitch and Barcelona looking to balance their books, it’s likely that he will request a transfer this winter.
