Charlie Austin was not the first choice of leading home-grown players before the start of the Premier League season but his recent form continues to defy the sceptics.

Austin scored all three goals in the 3-2 win over West Brom last time out to take his tally to 11 goals in 15 Premier League games for an impressive average of 0.73 goals per game.

Austin’s goals have helped QPR rise out of the relegation zone, and lined him up for an England call and a pay rise. Austin should continue his scoring form against Arsenal unless the Gunners can resolve the sort of defensive woes which saw them concede a late equaliser to Liverpool.

The rumblings might have died down at the Emirates Stadium but Arsene Wenger is still the target of speculation over his future with Arsenal.

Wenger could ease the pressure a little by splashing some of the cash reserves the move to the Emirates has helped to build for the north London club.

Although his priority should be in defence, Wenger has been linked with Paris St Germain forward Edinson Cavani. However, in summer signings Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, together with a fit-again Olivier Giroud, Wenger has a strikeforce which could lead to the manager keeping his hands in his pockets in next month’s transfer window.

Harry Redknapp does not have the same embarrassment of riches and has been setting his transfer window strategy accordingly.

In the meantime, the Rangers boss will look to Austin and Bobby Zamora ahead of a possible Premier League return to QPR for Los Angeles Galaxy forward Robbie Keane.

But should Austin continue his recent form maybe Redknapp will not need to spend quite so much money come next month.

Enhanced price therefore maximum stake of £25 per user.
