Sunderland and Liverpool approach their meeting at the Stadium of Light on Saturday buoyed by their success in the third round of the FA Cup, so both will be looking to continue that form in the Premier League.

The Black Cats were 1-0 winners over Leeds in a repeat of the 1973 final and Liverpool turned the tables on AFC Wimbledon, who won the 1988 final against the Reds.

Liverpool’s 2-1 FA Cup win in south London made it six games unbeaten for the Reds, so they are in the form to add to the 14 goals scored in those matches when they take on Sunderland.

Against Wimbledon, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was reminded of the talent of captain Steven Gerrard, as he scored both his side’s goals.

Rodgers has been inclined to rest the veteran England international from time to time this season, but he might not be so keen this time as Gerrard bids for a successful finale to his Liverpool career before leaving for the USA.

His double against Wimbledon left him one behind Robbie Fowler’s total of 183 goals for the Reds and two more goals against Sunderland would move him into Liverpool’s top five scorers of all time.

Mario Balotelli will also be keen to impress Rodgers by getting on the scoresheet against the Black Cats and the Liverpool boss will have the in-form Raheem Sterling available as well, after he was rested for the FA Cup tie.

Meanwhile, Sunderland manager Gus Poyet will be hoping Adam Johnson maintains his fine recent scoring run. The winger has netted three of his four Premier League goals this season in his last five appearances.

Included in that sequence was the only goal in the away win over bitter rivals Newcastle and he was also on target against Manchester City and Hull City.

Enhanced price therefore maximum stake of £25 per user.
