Lille head coach Marcelo Bielsa rejected the opportunity to recruit Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony, according to the club chairman.
Les Dogues were in the market for attacking reinforcements and they had the opportunity to sign either the Ivorian or Spurs striker Vincent Janssen.
However, Lille president Gerard Lopez went on to reveal that head coach Marcelo Bielsa didn’t want to add any high-profile footballers this summer.
“The idea was to form a team from A to Z, with new elements, and when I suggested to Marcelo (Bielsa) that he brings some top players, he did not want to,” Lopez told Team Duga on Radio Monte Carlo.
The Chilean tactician recruited quite a few new footballers this summer, and while the team enjoyed a disappointing start, it is still too early to judge his work.
Bielsa appears to be in for a long haul at Lille and the real results of his work probably will not be evident until next season.
