The Campeonato Paulista continues this week, with Palmeiras and Santos both aiming to go top of the table.
The duo take on lower-ranked opposition on Wednesday, while leaders Sao Paulo and second-placed Corinthians play on Thursday.Palmeiras will be hoping to go top of the table when they take on struggling Linense on Wednesday.Managed by former Brazil and Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari, third-placed Palmeiras lost ground on the leaders after a 1-1 draw with Sao Caetano on Sunday.They are now two points off Sao Paulo and Corinthians after drawing three of their last five games.They do boast the league’s tightest defence however, conceding just six goals.Palmeiras topped the table early in the season and a win against 17th-placed Linense would return them to the head of the standings.Meanwhile, fourth-placed Santos also have the chance to move to the head of the table on Wednesday when they take on Mogi Mirim.The reigning champions also lost ground after a surprise 2-1 defeat to Bragantino on Saturday, ending a three-match winning run.Santos lead the scoring charts with 31 goals, with 10 coming from former Manchester City player Elano.Santos can move to the top of the table if they beat eleventh-placed Mogi Mirim, but only if they win by three goals or more and Palmeiras fail to win.Current leaders Sao Paulo face eighth placed Paulista on Thursday, looking to extend a four-match winning run.The run has seen them move up the league and they are now top by virtue of goals scored.Second-placed Corinthians are level on points with Sao Paulo and host seventh-placed Oeste.Corinthians are the most succesful side in the Campeonato Paulista, having won the title on 26 occasions.
