Big Sam a good appointment for the Hammers

Sam Allardyce will be appointed West Ham boss when he returns from his family holiday.

I think that Big Sam will be a good appointment for West Ham. Although not all West Ham fans will agree.

Style

Sam Allardyce gets criticised for the way his teams play football. His teams are labelled as long ball merchants that play kick and run football.

Allardyce’s style of football isn’t to everybody’s taste but it seems to produce results.

West Ham had a reputation in the olden days of the academy of football. However down the years that reputation has diminished. A minority of West Ham fans are still stuck on the idea that the club should play attractive, passing football.

However the team is in a mess and before they can play attractive football they need to play winning football. Allardyce will get them playing winning football again, even if it’s not the prettiest style of football.

Solid

Sam Allardyce also has a reputation for producing sides that are solid and defensive sound. Both of those qualities are ones that the Hammers were missing big time last season. The first thing he will do is sort out West Ham’s leaky defence.

At times last season West Ham’s defence resembled the keystone cops, they were simply all over the place. Sam Allardyce won’t allow his defenders to be so haphazard.

Unlucky

Sam Allardyce was really unlucky to be out of a job before agreeing to become West Ham boss. At his two previously clubs Newcastle and Blackburn he was sacked because of new owners coming in and not fancying his style.

Both clubs were in comfortable midtable positions when Big Sam was sacked. Blackburn faced the consequences of sacking the former-Bolton boss with the club struggling against relegation under Allardyce’s replacement Steve Kean.

Exits

Sam Allardyce will have to deal with the exits of the likes of Demba Ba, Robert Green and Scott Parker. Those three and German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger are the only really losses to the West Ham cause.

The rest of the squad are easily dispensable. The West Ham squad have a lot of underachieving players. And according to some West Ham fans the squad has lots of dead wood.

Rebuilding

With most of the squad leaving the Hammers this summer Sam Allardyce will need to rebuild his squad almost from scratch. Sam Allardyce is a master wheeler-dealer in the transfer market. He has an excellent eye for a bargain.

In the past at Bolton and Blackburn he has pulled off some fantastic coups. He will need all his skill in the transfer market to rebuild the West Ham squad from the ruins of their relegated Premier League squad.

Contrast

The way Sam Allardyce manages is in stark contrast to that of former-Hammers boss Avram Grant. Grant strikes me as a more quiet and calmer individual. Allardyce is a more vocal boss, who is a better motivator of players.

Grant struggled to motivate his players in the Premier League last season and that’s why they are now in the Championship. Motivating his players has always been one of Allardyce’s best qualities.

Promotion

If Sam Allardyce gets the proper backing of the West Ham board then he could help the club bounce back at the first attempt. The West Ham owners seem to like to interfere with everything involved in the club. However they need to shut up and let Sam Allardyce do his job. If they do I’m sure Sam Allardyce will revive the clubs ailing fortunes.

Is Sam Allardyce the best man for West Ham?
