Athletic Bilbao are readying an ambitious bid to sign Spanish defender Nacho Monreal from Arsenal, El Mundo Deportivo has revealed.
The Spain international has found it hard to get much needed playing time since the return of Kieran Gibbs, and he is aware he could easily miss out on Spain World Cup squad unless his situation changes.
This is why Monreal is reportedly open to leaving the Gunners in January, with Athletic Bilbao set to offer him an escape route from the Emirates.
Los Leones are hoping to sign the former Osasuna full-back on a six-month loan, and they are set to open talks with the player’s current employers.
Nacho Monreal joined Arsenal in January 2013, but has since started just 9 Premier League fixtures for the club.
He has yet to start a Premier League match this season, having only made seven substitute appearances. Meanwhile, Monreal featured in 2 2014 World Cup qualifiers for Spain.
