Looking to end 2018 on a high and potentially climb into the top-six, Gary Monk’s high flyers will host Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with Monk’s Birmingham side, picking up a very impressive 2-0 win at home to fellow playoff contenders Stoke on Wednesday, the Blues lost just one of their five matches in December and their record in the Midlands is impeccable. Birmingham have lost just one of their last 19 matches at St. Andrew’s, a run that stems back to March 3rd. One man to watch for the hosts will be the in-form Jacques Maghoma. After finding the net once again on Boxing Day, the 31-year-old now has two in his last two for Monk’s side. Given Brentford’s very public struggles, the hosts should be confident of extending their tally on home soil.
Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Bristol City on Boxing Day, Brentford appear to still be struggling to adjust to life since Dean Smith moved to Villa Park last month. Now managing to win just one of their last eight matches under new boss Thomas Frank, the Bees have freefallen out of the top half of the table and now sit way down in 18th. Even more worrying for Saturday’s visitors, Brentford have remarkably failed to win any of their last 12 matches away from Griffin Park. Given the gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing Frank’s side to struggle on the road once again.
