Birmingham 6/5 to beat Bristol City in Saturday’s Championship clash

Competition: Championship

Market: Birmingham win

Odds: 6/5 @ Bet 365

Hoping to carry on what has been a very surprise push for the playoffs, Birmingham will welcome Bristol City to St. Andrews’ on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with Gary Monk’s Birmingham side, although the Blues may have spent large spells of last season flirting with the relegation zone, few would have expected their eye-catching start to the season. Coming off the back of a 3-0 win over Preston in midweek, the former Swansea boss has seen his side win their last two on the bounce and now sit just four points adrift of jumping into the top-six. Along with going nearly 300 minutes without conceding a Championship goal, it has been the form of striker Lukas Jutkiewicz that will be most impressing Monk. Already netting 10 goals this season, the former Burnley man has also now scored five goals in his last five matches at St. Andrews’.

As for the visitors, while Lee Johnson’s side do hold a comfortable buffer over the drop zone, it has been a season riddled with inconsistencies for Bristol City. Coming off the back of a 1-1 at home to Millwall in midweek, the Robbins have now picked up just one Championship win in their last six, that victory coming in a hard-fought battle against rock-bottom Ipswich. Now failing to record a clean sheet since the end of October, it will be their defensive record most concerning Johnson. Given the gulf in recent performances between the two sides, coupled with City’s recent defensive struggles, we’re backing another tricky afternoon for the visitors.
