Birmingham City 15/8 to beat Barnsley in Tuesday’s Championship showdown

Competition: Championship

Market: Birmingham City win

Odds: 15/8 @ Bet 365

Handed a golden chance to make another statement in midweek, Birmingham will make the trip to a struggling Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Barnsley may have appeared to have turned a corner after bringing in new boss Gerhard Struber, the Reds have slumped back to their old ways. Although fans around Oakwell may have seen their side snatch a point off of Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend, the former Wolfsburger manager has seen his side lose their other four matchups on the bounce, a run that also saw them hit with a 4-2 hammering against League One outfit Portsmouth last month. With a growing reputation for their struggles at the back and also slumping to a 2-0 defeat when they made the trip to St. Andrew’s earlier in the season, Tuesday could be another tough test for Barnsley.

As for the visitors, putting in yet another rampant display and picking up a thumping 3-1 win away at Bristol City on Friday night, Birmingham find themselves in the midst of a stellar purple patch. With an FA Cup showdown against Leicester on the horizon, the Blues have won their last three matches on the bounce and are in the midst of an unbeaten run that stems back to New Year’s Day. With the mood around St. Andrew’s at a season-high, one man to keep an eye out for in midweek could be January arrival, Scott Hogan. Finding the net in back-to-back matchups since making a loan switch from Villa Park last month, the 27-year-old should be relishing his trip to Oakwell on Tuesday night.
