Birmingham sign French defender Vignal

English Premier League club Birmingham on Thursday agreed to sign former Liverpool defender Gregory Vignal.

Vignal will join Alex McLeish’s promoted squad on a one-year contract if he passes a medical.

The 28-year-old French left-back played for McLeish during a loan spell at Rangers and impressed the Blues manager during a trial this pre-season.

McLeish said: “He’s a good athlete, he’s mobile and he’s strong and aggressive.

“I think he stirred the fans up and British fans appreciate that kind of approach.

“He played a season with me at Rangers when we won the league and it was a very successful campaign for him then, so I know what Greg can bring us.”
