Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Ligue 2 table, Annecy will travel to AC Ajaccio on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while some in AC Ajaccio’s camp might have opened up the 2024/25 campaign with their sights set on booking a top-half return, the Bears have endured a real crisis. Last seen heading into France’s festive break with a 1-0 loss at the hands of Pau, Mathieu Chabert’s side find themselves pencilled in as a leading relegation contender this year. Marking their return on Friday night sat two points adrift of safety, the former Bastia boss has seen his downbeat squad muster just 15 points from their first 16 Ligue 2 appearances. In fact, along with crashing out of the Coupe de France on November 15th following a 2-1 defeat against Les Herbiers, Ajaccio have recorded just a sole point from any of their previous four Ligue 2 matchups. Facing what should be another real challenge this weekend, Friday’s hosts have also shown some glaring issues in the final third. It should be highlighted, Chabert’s camp have failed to find the net in all of their last four second-tier battles.
As for the visitors, while Ajaccio might find themselves at the heart of a real struggle, Annecy are enjoying what has been a sensational run. Rightfully receiving a string of plaudits, Laurent Guyot’s side suddenly have their sights set on mounting a genuine promotion charge in 2025. Including a 2-0 victory against Clermont last month, Friday’s guests are unbeaten in each of their previous six appearances across all competitions. Likewise, the Reds have suffered just a sole defeat from any of their last 11 straight outings – a run that stems all the way back to November 8th. Smelling the chance to move within touching distance of the automatic promotion spots, Annecy will also be excited by their most recent trip to the Stade Michel Moretti. Claiming a thumping 3-1 win when they last travelled to the relegation scrappers back in March, Chabert’s side will be hoping for a repeat performance this weekend. Given the huge recent gulf in class between Friday’s opponents, we are backing an away draw no bet here.
