Competition: Scottish Championship
Market: Livingston win
Odds: 8/11 @ BetUS
Two sides who find themselves scrapping it out at opposite ends of the Championship table, Livingston will travel to Airdrieonians on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Airdrieonians might have opened up the new campaign with their sights set on snatching another play-off ticket, Rhys McCabe’s side have endured a public Championship struggle. Eventually forced to settle for a 2-2 stalemate at home against Morton over the weekend, the Lanarkshire-based outfit have come under some increasing scrutiny. Battling it out at the foot of the table and pencilled in as a landslide relegation candidate, the Diamonds sit rock-bottom of the standings and will be bracing themselves for yet another heavyweight challenge here. Opening Tuesday’s showdown already sat 10 points adrift of Championship safety, Airdrieonians have also put just six points on the board from any of their 16 appearances this season. Opening December with a routine 2-0 loss at the hands of Queen’s Park, McCabe’s side have shown some glaring defensive struggles. Already shipping 31 Championship strikes, they hold the worst defensive tally among Scotland’s second-tier.
As for the visitors, after losing their Premiership status with a whimper last season, Livingston are dreaming of the chance to book an immediate top-flight return. Last seen over the weekend putting in another rugged performance as they clinched a 2-0 victory against Partick Thistle, the Lions will certainly be smelling another golden opportunity here. Flying out of the traps since opening the new campaign and tipped as a leading promotion contender this year, David Martindale’s side have suffered just a single defeat across any competition since opening up the new campaign. Extending on their Scottish Cup adventure last month as they landed a 2-0 win against Brora Rangers, Tuesday’s guests have also continued to shine with their gritty displays at the back. In fact, Livingston have not conceded a single goal in any of their last four showdowns across all competitions. It should also be noted, the Yellows have remarkably won each of their previous 13 straight battles against Airdrieonians – a run that stems all the way back to August 2012.
