Two sides who find themselves battling it out in the Segunda play-off chase, Almeria will host Elche on Monday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Almeria might have enjoyed a sensational flurry on either side of Spain’s festive break, Rubi’s men have drastically struggled to find any kind of stability over the past month. Putting in another worrying performance last time out as they slumped to a routine 3-1 loss at the hands of Deportivo La Coruna, La Union are now clinging onto their spot in the play-off places. Crashing out of the Copa del Rey on January 15th as they fell to an action-packed 3-2 defeat against Leganes, the former Real Betis boss will also have a real headache over his side’s extended struggles on home soil. Last seen at the UD Almeria Stadium playing out a 1-1 stalemate against Real Oviedo, Rubi’s camp have recorded just a sole win from any of their last five consecutive showdowns in front of their own supporters. It should also be highlighted, La Union have mustered just a single clean sheet on home soil since the middle of December.

As for the visitors, making an immediate return to winning ways last week as they secured a 2-0 victory against Tenerife, Elche will be looking to use that rugged performance as a platform to build on. However, although the Alicante-based outfit might have continued to gain plenty of praise this season, Eder Sarabia’s side have failed to register consecutive Segunda clean sheets since opening the New Year. Watching their respective Copa del Rey adventure come to an end on January 15th as they slumped to a 4-0 drumming against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, the former Villarreal coach is desperately seeking some much-welcomed stability. However, despite sitting within touching distance of finding a route into the automatic promotion spots, Elche have shown some extended issues on the road. Aside from a 2-0 victory against Castellon over the festive period, that is the only Segunda win that Monday’s guests have recorded outside of Alicante since the start of November.
