Competition: MLS
Market: Austin win
Odds: 12/11 @ Pribet
Looking to extend on their charge up the Western Conference table, Austin will welcome Portland to the Q2 Stadium in the early hours of Thursday.
Starting with the hosts, although Austin might have opened up the 2024 campaign in the midst of a real rut, Josh Wolff’s men have come roaring back in an eye-catching fashion. Despite failing to win any of their opening five MLS appearances, Los Verdes have skyrocketed their way up the Western Conference standings and they are now tipped as a leading play-off contender. Coming from behind last week as they snatched a 1-1 stalemate away at San Jose, the Texas-based outfit have now suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous seven appearances. Signing off April with a stellar 2-0 victory at home against LA Galaxy, Austin will certainly be excited by the prospect of making a return to the Q2 Stadium here. Last seen in front of their own supporters clinching an action-packed 3-2 win against Sporting Kansas City, the Greens have now won all of their previous five straight MLS showdowns on home soil – a purple patch that stems all the way back to a 2-2 stalemate against Philadelphia on March 17th.
As for the visitors, making a welcomed return to winning ways last week as they secured a 2-1 victory at home against Sporting KC, Portland will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, sat outside the play-off places in the Western Conference, Phil Neville’s side have recorded just a pair of wins from any of their previous 12 straight MLS showdowns – a run that stems all the way back to March 9th. Struggling to find any kind of stability under the one-time Manchester United defender, the Timbers should also be concerned by their glaring issues away from Providence Park. Last seen on their travels slumping to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Minnesota, Neville’s men have lost all of their last three MLS appearances on the road by an aggregate score of 7-3. Likewise, it should also be noted, Portland have failed to muster a single victory outside of Oregon from any of their last seven outings.
