Competition: EFL Trophy
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 10/11 @ BetUS
Two sides turning their attention back to EFL Trophy action on Tuesday night, Barnsley will welcome Doncaster to Oakwell.
Starting with the hosts, while Barnsley might have opened October in the midst of a worrying rut, the Tykes do appear to have turned a much-needed corner over the past fortnight. Once again pencilled in as a leading play-off contender this season, Darrell Clarke’s side have collected seven points from their previous three League One appearances and they have found a recent clinical edge in the final third. Last seen over the weekend picking up some perfect momentum as they secured an eye-catching 2-0 win away at Shrewsbury, the former Port Vale boss has seen his squad register a pair of goals in all of their previous three consecutive outings. Making a statement earlier in the month as they clinched a 2-1 victory against Blackpool, Barnsley will now know the importance of claiming some crucial defensive steel. In fact, Tuesday’s hosts have recorded just a sole clean sheet from any of their last 11 appearances across all competitions. It should also be highlighted, Clarke’s side have seen each of their previous four showdowns at Oakwell finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, making an immediate return to winning ways last weekend as they secured an impressive 2-1 win away at Bradford, Doncaster have their sights firmly set on clinching a League One return this season. Battling it out at the top of the fourth-tier standings, Grant McCann’s men have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous six consecutive appearances. Getting October underway with a thumping 3-0 romp against Grimsby, the former Peterborough boss will be hugely excited by his side’s recent success away from the Eco-Power Stadium. Including a 2-1 victory against Swindon earlier in the month, Tuesday’s guests have won each of their last three showdowns on the road by an aggregate score of 7-2. It should also be highlighted that Doncaster have recorded 10 points from just their last four away fixtures across all competitions. Likewise, with McCann’s side seeing three of those four appearances on the road finish with both teams getting on the scoresheet, we are expecting a similar enjoyable affair here.
