Looking to claim back-to-back Group F victories on Sunday afternoon, Belgium will meet Morocco in Doha for what could be a cagey affair.
Starting with Belgium, while the European giants might have opened this year’s World Cup adventure with a hard-fought victory earlier in the week, Roberto Martínez’s men struggled to find much stability. Eventually claiming a generous 1-0 win against Canada, the one-time Wigan boss will be calling on his side to lay down more of a marker in Doha. However, although the Red Devils might be tipped as a landslide pick to cruise their way out of Group F, Belgium have failed to gain much fluidity over recent times. Signing off their pre-World Cup preparations with back-to-back defeats at the hands of Holland and Egypt, Martínez’s side have also struggled to find much of a clinical edge in the final third. In fact, the European outfit have bagged more than a single strike in just one of their previous six appearances.
As for Morocco, although the Atlas Lions might have opened their Group F campaign with a tricky test in midweek, Walid Regragui’s side put in an impressive display. Eventually holding onto a 0-0 stalemate against Croatia in Al Khor, the Reds should find the mood in their camp at a high. Although many feel that the African outfit are an outside pick to find a route to the knockout stage, Morocco are unbeaten in each of their previous eight appearances across all formats and they have continued to gain plenty of plaudits. With that eye-catching run of form stemming all the way back to June 1st, it should also be highlighted that Regragui’s men have not shipped a single strike in any of their last six straight outings. While another tough challenge is on the cards this weekend, Morocco could be smelling the chance to spring an upset.
