Bitesize Prediction: Birmingham vs Middlesbrough – 02/01/22

Competition: Championship

Market: Middlesbrough win

Odds: 13/10 @ 888sport

Looking to lay down another marker on Monday afternoon, a high-flying Middlesbrough will make the trip to St. Andrew’s when they meet Birmingham.

Starting with the hosts, while Birmingham might hold a six-point buffer over slipping into the drop zone, the Blues are enduring what has been another worrying rut. Last seen signing off 2022 with a toothless display on home soil as they were hit with a shock 1-0 loss against fellow strugglers Hull, John Eustace’s men could be looking over their shoulder with some concern. In fact, on a run that is highlighted by a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Burnley last week, fans around St. Andrew’s have seen their side muster just a sole Championship win from their last six attempts. With that run stemming all the way back to November 5th, Birmingham will also be seeking some much-needed stability in front of their own supporters. Including that shocking 1-0 defeat against the Tigers on December 30th, Eustace’s downbeat squad have claimed just a single win from their last five showdowns at St. Andrew’s.

As for the visitors, while some might have been surprised to see Michael Carrick appointed new Middlesbrough boss back in October, the Reds are in the midst of what has become a stellar purple patch. Only continuing to shine under the former Manchester United coach, they suddenly have their sights set on clinching a play-off spot in 2023. Skyrocketing their way up the Championship table, Boro have won five of their last six second-tier showdowns and the mood in their camp appears to be at a red-hot high. Heading into the New Year with another eye-catching display as they claimed a 2-1 victory away at Blackburn, Carrick’s high-flying squad have also lost just one of their previous eight Championship battles. With that run stemming all the way back to October 29th, Monday’s guests will be smelling the chance to lay down another marker here.

Bet: Middlesbrough 13/10 to beat Birmingham in Monday’s Championship battle @ 888sport
