Competition: Copa do Brasil

Market: Palmeiras win

Odds: 8/15 @ Pribet

Looking to finish off the job and book their spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s Copa do Brasil, Palmeiras will travel to Botafogo for their second-leg showdown on Thursday night.

Starting with the hosts, suffering a 2-1 defeat when they travelled across Sao Paulo for their first-leg battle on May 3rd, Botafogo find themselves at the heart of a public struggle. Already in the midst of a Serie B relegation scrap and failing to find any kind of stability since opening up the 2024 campaign, Paulo Gomes’ men are rightfully pencilled in as a landslide underdog here. Putting in another nightmare performance over the weekend as they slumped to a 4-0 drumming away at Goias, the Whites have failed to muster a single victory from any of their first seven appearances across all competitions. With their extended rut underlined by a 2-0 defeat against Guarani on May 11th, Gomes will also have a major headache over his side’s glaring issues in the final third. Despite notching a consolation strike against Palmeiras earlier in the month, Botafogo have failed to find the net in all of their previous four Serie B appearances on the bounce.

As for the visitors, making real history last season as they secured a 12th Serie A crown, Palmeiras have once again come flying out of the traps this time around. Breezing their way to the knockout stage of this year’s Copa Libertadores and not having to get out of third gear, the Brazilian giants should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Clinching that first-leg 2-1 victory when they welcomed Botafogo to the Allianz Parque on May 3rd, Abel Ferreira’s men have won four of their previous five appearances across all competitions and they should be relishing a trip across Sao Paulo on Thursday night. Simply looking to finish off the job here, Palmeiras will also be excited by their continued success on the road. Along with winning back-to-back away fixtures by an aggregate score of 7-0, it should also be highlighted that the reigning Serie A champions have collected 13 points from their last five showdowns away from the Allianz.
