Competition: FA Cup
Market: Burnley double chance
Odds: 8/15 @ 888sport
Looking to spring an FA Cup upset and collect a Premier League scalp on Saturday afternoon, a high-flying Burnley will make the trip to Bournemouth.
Starting with the hosts, while Bournemouth might have made the call to appoint Gary O’Neil on a permanent basis back in November, the Cherries are in the midst of a real struggle. Opening 2023 with a routine 3-0 hammering away at Premier League giants Manchester United, they have now lost each of their last four straight contests since returning from the World Cup’s winter break. With that run highlighted by a sluggish 2-0 loss at home against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve, Bournemouth have claimed just a sole Premier League win since October 8th. Firmly at the heart of a relegation scrap and looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, O’Neil will have a real headache over his side’s struggles in the final third. It should be noted, Saturday’s hosts have failed to bag a single strike on their four-match losing run.
As for the visitors, while Burnley might have lost their Premier League status last season, the Clarets have only continued on a remarkable rise under Vincent Kompany. Last seen opening the New Year with a 2-1 victory away at Swansea, it appears that the Lancashire-based outfit are breezing their way towards an immediate top-flight return. Holding a five-point buffer at the top of the Championship table, Kompany’s high-flying squad have won 11 of their previous 13 matchups across all formats. Likewise, with just a pair of defeats to their name since way back on August 12th, Burnley have also gained plenty of praise for their free-scoring displays. Marking their Championship return with a thumping 3-0 victory at home against Birmingham, Saturday’s guests should be smelling the chance to lay down a real FA Cup marker this weekend.
