Competition: Premier League
Market: Brentford win
Odds: 6/5 @ BetUS
With London bragging rights up for grabs on Saturday afternoon, Brentford will welcome a struggling West Ham to the Gtech Community Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, suffering a collapse away at Tottenham last weekend as they eventually fell to a 3-1 loss in north London, Brentford should be smelling the chance to claim a crucial boost here. Marking their return from September’s international break with a 2-1 loss at the hands of defending champions Manchester City, Thomas Frank’s men have lost three of their previous four Premier League appearances and have endured a tricky start to proceedings. However, extending on their EFL Cup adventure earlier in the month as they secured a 3-1 victory against League One outfit Leyton Orient, the Bees will certainly be excited to make a return to home soil this weekend. Heading into September’s fortnight interval with a routine 3-1 win against Premier League returners Southampton, Brentford have won all of their first three home fixtures across all competitions. Getting the new campaign underway with a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace on August 18th, Frank’s side are rightfully pencilled in as a standout contender here.
As for the visitors, crashing out of the EFL Cup earlier in the week following a 5-1 drumming away at Liverpool, West Ham have continued to show a string of issues since opening up the new campaign. While the Hammers might have appointed Julen Lopetegui over the summer, the former Wolves boss already has a tremendous amount of pressure on his shoulders. Putting in a woeful performance last weekend as they slumped to an infamous 3-0 drumming at home against Chelsea, Saturday’s guests have collected just a single victory from any of their first five Premier League appearances. Getting proceedings underway last month with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Aston Villa, West Ham have also gained a major reputation for their glaring defensive struggles. Already shipping nine goals, it should also be noted that the Hammers have remarkably recorded just a single Premier League clean sheet since the start of January.
