Competition: Ligue 1

Market: Brest win

Odds: 19/20 @ Pribet

Looking to extend on their recent Ligue 1 flurry in midweek, Brest will welcome Strasbourg to the Stade Francis-Le Blé on Thursday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Brest might have spent large spells of last season looking over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap, Eric Roy’s side have gained a string of plaudits this time around. Continuing to impress since returning from November’s international break, some around the Stade Francis-Le Blé suddenly have their sights set on mounting a genuine European charge. Opening up the midweek fixtures sat just a single point adrift of breaking into the top-six, Roy’s side will be looking to make another Ligue 1 statement here. Last seen over the weekend putting in an eye-catching performance as they cruised there way to a 3-0 romp against Clermont, Brest have collected back-to-back Ligue 1 victories. Marking their return from the fortnight interval with a 3-1 victory away at Montpellier, Thursday’s hosts have also found a real clinical edge in the final third. It should also be highlighted, Brest have lost just one of their first six showdowns in front of their own supporters.

As for the visitors, while Strasbourg might have eventually clung to their Ligue 1 status last season, Le Racing have continued to show some extended issues this time around. Last seen over the weekend putting in another worrying performance as they slumped to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Reims, Patrick Vieira’s side are without a win from any of their previous eight straight appearances – a run that stems all the way back to September 24th. At the heart of another relegation scrap heading into the New Year, Strasbourg hold just a one-point buffer from slipping into the relegation zone. Facing what should be a stern test when they travel to the Stade Francis-Le Blé on Thursday night, the midweek guests should also be worried by their most recent showdown against Brest. Hit with a 1-0 loss when the two sides last met back on March 5th, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
