Competition: NPL Queensland
Market: Gold Coast Knights win
Odds: 1/2 @ BetUS
Simply looking to widen their buffer at the top of the NPL Queensland table on Saturday morning, Gold Coast will travel to Brisbane City.
Starting with the hosts, while Brisbane City might have signed off June with a much-needed 2-0 victory away at Redlands, the Azzurri have come crashing back down to earth. Putting in another downbeat display last weekend as they slumped to a 1-0 loss against Wynnum, Karl Dodd’s men almost find themselves sat in NPL Queensland limbo. Facing a real uphill battle in the race to clinch another play-off ticket this season, the Sky Blues have now collected just a sole win from any of their previous six appearances. Opening up July with a woeful 3-0 drumming at the hands of the Queensland Lions, Saturday’s hosts will also be hugely concerned by their glaring issues on home soil. Including a 4-0 loss against Olympic FC on May 18th, Brisbane City have remarkably recorded just a sole point from any of their last six showdowns at Spencer Park – a rut that stems all the way back to the end of March.
As for the visitors, enjoying what has been another sensational NPL Queensland romp this season, Gold Coast are storming their way to consecutive titles. Last seen claiming an action-packed 4-2 win at home against the Sunshine Wanderers, Scott McDonald’s men have now won all of their previous six appearances on the bounce. In fact, on what has become a remarkable flurry, the Knights have collected 40 points from their previous 14 outings. With that purple patch stemming all the way back to March 9th, the one-time Celtic striker should be smelling a golden opportunity this weekend. Getting Saturday’s fixtures underway holding a commanding six-point buffer over the chasing pack, Gold Coast will also be excited by a rampant record against Brisbane. Along with landing a routine 3-1 win when they last met the Azzurri back on April 19th, they have won four of their previous five battles. Likewise, the runaway leaders have also won all of their last four straight trips to Spencer Park by an aggregate score of 8-2.
