Competition: Australia Cup
Market: Western Sydney Wanderers win
Odds: 8/15 @ BetUS
Looking to extend on their Australia Cup adventure on Wednesday morning, Western Sydney Wanderers will travel to Brisbane City.
Starting with the hosts, while Brisbane might have signed off June with a much-needed 2-0 victory away at Redlands, it appears that might have been nothing more than a minor boost. Last seen slumping to a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Gold Coast Knights, Karl Dodd’s men have come tumbling down the NPL Queensland standings. Getting July underway with a woeful 3-0 drumming at home against Queensland Lions, the Azzurri have lost all of their previous three appearances by an aggregate score of 6-1. Likewise, including a 2-1 defeat against Sunshine Coast last month, Brisbane have registered just a single victory from any of their previous seven NPL Queensland appearances. Struggling to find any kind of stability, Dodd’s men have also gained a reputation for their glaring struggles on home soil. In fact, on what has become an infamous rut, the Azzurri have remarkably collected just a sole point from any of their last seven battles at Spencer Park.
As for the visitors, suffering real frustration last season as they eventually missed out on an A-League play-off spot, Western Sydney are simply looking to make an immediate response this time around. Nevertheless, signing off the 2023/24 campaign with an action-packed 4-3 win away at Melbourne Victory, Alen Stajcic’s men did largely impress with their performances away from the CommBank Stadium last year. Including an eye-catching 3-1 romp against Macarthur back on April 1st, the Wanderers collected nine points from their final four A-League matchups on the road. Excited to get proceedings underway on Wednesday morning and extend on their Australia Cup adventure with a statement of intent, the former Perth boss should be smelling a golden opportunity when his squad travel to Brisbane in midweek. Landing a routine 3-1 victory when they travelled to Spencer Park back in September 2017, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
