In what could prove to be another action-packed A-League affair on Monday morning, Brisbane will welcome Sydney to the Kayo Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, managing to mount a late comeback away at Wellington last week as they eventually snatched a 2-2 draw, Brisbane are simply hoping to avoid lifting the wooden spoon this season. However, while interim boss Nick Green might have seen his side get hit with a downbeat 4-1 drumming at the hands of Central Coast when signing off March, that is the only defeat that the Lions have suffered from their last four A-League appearances. Cruising their way to a 3-0 romp when they welcomed Newcastle to the Kayo Stadium on April 8th, Brisbane should also be excited by Sydney’s last trip to Queensland. Claiming a 3-1 victory when the former Australian champions last came to town to November 5th, some in Green’s camp could be smelling the chance to spring an upset on Monday morning.
As for the visitors, making what was a crucial return to winning ways last week, Sydney are desperate to sign off their A-League campaign with some much-needed stability. Eventually claiming an action-packed 4-1 victory at home against Perth, Steve Corica’s side also drew a line under their four-match winless run. Opening April with a stunning 3-3 draw at home against Western United, the Sky Blues have really gained a reputation for their lively outcomes. However, despite knowing that another A-League victory on Monday morning would clinch them a top-six finish, Sydney could face a tricky test here. Collecting just a single point from any of their last three appearances on the road, we could be treated to an enjoyable affair here. It should be noted, with each of the last four straight meetings between Monday’s opponents finishing with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome in Queensland.
