Competition: A-League
Market: Western United win
Odds: 20/21 @ BetUS
Looking to make an immediate return to winning ways on Thursday morning, Western United will travel to the Suncorp Stadium when they meet Brisbane.
Starting with the hosts, sat rock-bottom of the A-League table, Brisbane have continued to break a string of unwanted records this season. Cementing their spot as Australia’s ultimate whipping boys in 2025, the Lions have remarkably collected just 11 points from their 22 appearances this year. Limping their way over the finishing line and pencilled in as a landslide contender to lift the wooden spoon, Ruben Zadkovich’s men have continued to show a string of glaring issues. Last seen falling to an action-packed 3-2 defeat against Melbourne City, Brisbane have lost all of their three appearances since returning from March’s international break by an aggregate score of 10-3. Getting April underway with an infamous 5-1 drumming at home against Macarthur, the Lions will be bracing themselves for what should be another stern challenge here. It should also be highlighted, the former Perth boss has seen his squad clinch just one-point from any of their last 10 consecutive A-League showdowns at the Suncorp Stadium.
As for the visitors, eventually falling to a 2-0 loss against Western Sydney last week, Western United will be seeking an immediate response here. Despite watching their remarkable purple patch come to an abrupt end, John Aloisi’s men have continued to receive a string of plaudits from across Australia this season. Heading into March’s international break with a sensational 6-2 victory against Newcastle, the Tarneit-based outfit have collected 15 points from their previous six A-League appearances. Scrapping it out at the top of the table, Thursday’s guests could officially punch their play-off ticket here. In fact, Western United open their trip to Brisbane sat just two points adrift of finding a route into the AFC Champions League spots. Handed what is a golden opportunity in midweek, Aloisi’s side will also be excited by their most recent meeting against the Lions. Securing a 1-0 win when they welcomed Brisbane to Ironbark Fields back on December 29th, they have also lost just a pair of their seven historic trips to the Suncorp Stadium.
