Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Championship table, Watford will make the trip to Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon when they meet Bristol City.
Starting with the hosts, crashing out of the EFL Cup earlier in the week thanks to a nightmare display on home soil, Bristol City find themselves in the midst of an extended rut. Eventually getting hit with a 3-1 loss at the hands of League One outfit Lincoln, Nigel Pearson once again has real pressure on his shoulders. Now holding just a three-point buffer from slipping into the drop zone, the Robins have failed to win any of their last five matchups across all formats. Despite picking up a much-needed 2-0 win away at West Brom last month, it appears that was just a minor boost for the ex-Watford boss. Knowing that his side should face a stern test at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon, City have also continued to show some rather glaring struggles on home soil. Including that 3-1 loss against Lincoln last time out, Pearson’s men have failed to pick up a victory at Ashton Gate since October 12th.
As for the visitors, while Slaven Bilic might have endured somewhat of a tricky start to life at Vicarage Road, it appears that Watford have now found their feet under the former West Ham boss. Despite suffering a disappointing 1-0 loss at home against Coventry last weekend, the Hornets came roaring back a few days ago. Picking up an eye-catching 2-0 win at home against Reading, Saturday’s guests should be smelling the chance to lay down another marker at Ashton Gate. With their sights set on securing an immediate Premier League return this season, Watford have taken 12 points from their last five Championship outings. With that run highlighted by a 4-0 romp against Luton last month, Bilic’s side will also be excited by their most recent meeting against the Robins. Claiming a thrilling 6-0 victory when they welcomed City to Vicarage Road back in February 2021, we’re backing an away win here.
