Competition: Championship
Market: Burnley win
Odds: 7/10 @ Pribet
Looking to find a route back into the automatic promotion spots, Burnley will welcome Derby to Turf Moor on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, after losing their Premier League status last season, Burnley have their sights firmly set on securing an immediate top-flight return. While some around Turf Moor might have been disappointed last weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate against Middlesbrough, Scott Parker’s men are enjoying what has become a sensational purple patch. Signing off November with a 2-0 win away at Stoke, the former Fulham boss has seen his squad muster 13 points from their previous five Championship appearances. Marking their return from November’s international break with a 1-0 victory against Bristol City, the Clarets will be smelling another golden opportunity here. In fact, Burnley have suffered just a single defeat from any of their last 16 straight Championship showdowns – a run that stems all the way back to August 24th. Tipped as a leading promotion contender this season, Tuesday’s hosts will be confident of finding a route back into the automatic spots.
As for the visitors, although Derby might have only made their Championship return this season, the Rams are looking over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap. Last seen over the weekend falling to a routine 2-0 loss at the hands of Leeds, Paul Warne’s men find themselves at the heart of a public struggle. Opening December with what was a costly 2-1 defeat at home against Sheffield Wednesday, the former Rotherham boss has seen his squad lose each of their previous three consecutive Championship appearances. Tumbling their way down the table, Derby should be bracing themselves for what appears to be another stern examination on Tuesday night. Signing off November with another 2-1 loss against Swansea, the midweek guests have also recorded just a sole victory from any of their previous 10 consecutive outings. With that rut stemming all the way back to October 5th, Derby have also gained a reputation for their issues on the road. In fact, Warne’s side have claimed just a sole win away from Pride Park so far this season.
