Hoping to find a route back into the automatic promotion spots, Burnley will welcome Hull to Turf Moor on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Burnley might have lost their Premier League status last season, the Clarets have their sights set on securing an immediate top-flight return in 2025. Springing an FA Cup upset last weekend as they secured a 1-0 victory away at Southampton, Scott Parker’s side are enjoying what has become a sensational extended run. Last seen in Championship action collecting another 1-0 win against Oxford United, the Lancashire-based outfit are unbeaten in all of their previous 20 consecutive appearances across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to a 1-0 loss against Millwall on November 3rd. With the mood around Turf Moor at a red-hot high, Burnley have gained quite the reputation for their remarkable defensive steel. In fact, along with recording six consecutive clean sheets, Parker’s side have also shipped just a single goal across any format since December 21st. It should also be noted, Wednesday’s hosts have astonishingly conceded just nine Championship goals in their 31 appearances this season.
As for the visitors, making an immediate return to losing ways last time out, Hull find themselves at the heart of a Championship relegation scrap. Opening the midweek fixtures sat just one-point adrift of slipping into the drop zone, Ruben Selles has a real job on his hands in Yorkshire. Showing a string of inconstancies, the former Reading boss has seen his squad win just a pair of their previous seven appearances across all competitions. However, despite facing a heavyweight test here, the Tigers should be excited by their success on the road. Last seen on their travels collecting a sensational 3-0 romp away at promotion contenders Sheffield United, Wednesday’s guests will be excited by their recent dominance away from the KCOM. In fact, the Tigers have won each of their previous three Championship away fixtures by an aggregate score of 5-0. It should also be noted, Hull have not conceded a single goal outside of Yorkshire since Boxing Day.
