In what could prove to be a crucial showdown at the top of the Championship table, Burnley will welcome Middlesbrough to Turf Moor on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Burnley might have opened November in the midst of a wobble, the Clarets have come roaring back in an eye-catching fashion. Putting in another professional display last weekend as they collected a 2-0 victory away at Stoke, Scott Parker’s men have their sights firmly set on clinching an immediate Premier League return this season. Knowing that three points on Friday night would at least briefly skyrocket them to the top of the Championship table, the former Fulham boss has seen his squad win each of their previous four appearances. Winning each of those four consecutive showdowns by an aggregate score of 6-0, Burnley have continued to gain a reputation for their rugged approach under Parker’s guidance. In fact, the Clarets have lost just one of their previous 15 matchups across all competitions – a run that stems back to a 2-0 EFL Cup defeat against Wolves on August 28th. It should also be noted, winning back-to-back showdowns at Turf Moor, Friday’s hosts have not suffered a single defeat in front of their own supporters so far this season.
As for the visitors, making an immediate return to winning ways last weekend as they stormed their way to a 3-1 romp at home against Hull, Middlesbrough are enjoying their own extended flurry. Marking their return from November’s international break with a remarkable 6-2 victory away at Oxford United, Michael Carrick’s men are pencilled in as a leading play-off contender this season. Looking to collect a heavyweight Championship scalp here and move within touching distance of the automatic promotion spots, the one-time Manchester United midfielder should find the mood in his camp at a real high. Heading into November’s fortnight interval with a sensational 5-1 win against Luton, Middlesbrough have gained quite the reputation for their clinical performances in the final third. Including a 4-1 victory against QPR last month, Carrick’s side have already notched 32 Championship strikes and hold the second-best attacking tally. It should also be highlighted, Friday’s guests have notched 13 goals in just their last three matchups away from the Riverside.
