Two sides who find themselves at the heart of a Premier League relegation scrap, Burnley will welcome Sheffield United to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, suffering a heartbreaking collapse at Turf Moor last weekend as they eventually slumped to a 2-1 loss at the hands of West Ham, Burnley find themselves free-falling to an immediate Championship return. While Vincent Kompany’s side might have gained a string of plaudits as they romped their way to a Premier League return last season, the former Manchester City skipper has seen his squad come crashing back down to earth in an infamous fashion. Heading into November’s international break with a 3-1 drumming at the hands of title contenders Arsenal, Burnley have lost each of their previous seven straight showdowns against top-flight opposition. Crashing out of the EFL Cup on November 1st thanks to a 3-0 loss away at Everton, Saturday’s hosts have certainly shown a string of defensive issues. Including a 4-1 defeat against an inconsistent Chelsea last month, Burnley have already shipped 32 Premier League strikes this season. It should also be highlighted, Kompany’s side have yet to claim a single top-flight point at Turf Moor.
As for the visitors, while Sheffield United might have entered November’s international break with a minor boost, Paul Heckingbottom’s side are coming off the back of a woeful display. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny as they eventually slumped to a 3-1 drumming at home against fellow relegation scrappers Bournemouth, the Blades find themselves sat rock-bottom of the Premier League table. Already tipped as a landslide contender to be hit with an immediate Championship return, United have collected just four points from any of their first 13 top-flight appearances. Needing what looks set to be a major miracle if they are to keep hold of their Premier League status this season, Saturday’s guests have also gained a reputation for their defensive crisis. Including a routine 5-0 drumming at the hands of Arsenal last month, Heckingbottom’s men have already shipped 34 top-flight strikes this year. Two sides already scrapping it out at the foot of the table, we are expecting over 1.5 goals here.
