Competition: Championship
Market: Burnley win
Odds: 8/15 @ 888sport
Looking to mark their return from the international break with another Championship flurry, Burnley will welcome Sunderland to Turf Moor on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Burnley might have seen their FA Cup adventure come to an abrupt end at the hands of Manchester City earlier in the month, Vincent Kompany’s side are enjoying what has been a remarkable Championship romp. Although the Clarets might have lost their Premier League status last season, the Lancashire-based outfit are breezing their way towards an immediate top-flight return. Opening Friday’s showdown at Turf Moor holding a remarkable 13-point buffer at the top of the Championship table, Burnley have not suffered a single second-tier defeat since way back on November 5th. Continuing to gain a reputation for their free-scoring displays in the final third, Kompany’s high-flying squad should be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Yet to taste a single defeat on home soil so far this season and riding what has been a famous wave of momentum, the Clarets are rightfully tipped as a standout pick on Friday.
As for the visitors, although Sunderland might have impressed when making their Championship return this season, Tony Mowbray’s men are enduring a worrying recent blip. Having to settle for a 1-1 draw at home against Luton when heading into the international break, the former Blackburn boss has seen his struggling squad win just one of their last seven Championship appearances – a run that stems back to February 14th. With their nightmare run of form highlighted by a woeful 5-1 drumming at the hands of Stoke earlier in the month, there is no doubt that Sunderland will face a huge challenge when they make the trip to Turf Moor this weekend. It should be noted, with Sunderland suffering an action-packed 4-2 loss when they welcomed Burnley to the Stadium of Light back on October 22nd, we are expecting a similar home victory on Friday night.
