Competition: League One
Market: Both teams to score – No
Odds: 4/5 @ Pribet
Two sides who find themselves scrapping it out at the foot of the League One table, Burton will welcome Port Vale to the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Burton might have eventually cruised their way to League One safety last season, the Brewers are enduring another third-tier struggle this time around. Last seen putting in another toothless performance as they slumped to a 1-0 loss away at Exeter, Martin Paterson’s men open Saturday’s showdown holding just a four-point buffer from dropping into the relegation zone. Despite opening March with a 0-0 stalemate away at Cheltenham, that is the only point that they have collected from their previous six League One appearances – a run that stems back to February 17th. It should also be noted, the Staffordshire-based outfit have gained a reputation for their extended issues on home soil. Including a 1-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Carlisle on February 27th, Burton have lost all of their previous four contests at the Pirelli Stadium by an aggregate score of 7-1. It should also be noted, Paterson’s side have scored just a single goal on home soil in over 400 minutes of action.
As for the visitors, putting in another worrying performance last weekend as they suffered a 2-0 loss at home against Oxford, Port Vale are at the heart of a major League One nightmare. Tipped as a leading relegation contender in 2024 and opening Saturday’s showdown sat six points adrift of third-tier safety, Darren Moore has a huge job on his hands. In fact, along with collecting just a single point from any of their previous four appearances, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss finds his squad in the midst of a 14-match winless run. With that woeful blip stemming all the way back to December 29th, Port Vale have continued to show their own issues in the final third. Opening March with a 3-0 drumming against promotion contenders Derby, Moore’s side have drawn a blank in three of their previous four appearances. It should also be noted, Saturday’s guests have failed to find the net in four of their last five contests away from Vale Park.
