Competition: League One
Market: Peterborough win
Odds: 11/10 @ BetUS
Two sides who find themselves scrapping it out at opposite ends of the League One standings, Peterborough will travel to Whaddon Road when they meet Cheltenham on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to losing ways over the weekend as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against Lincoln, Cheltenham have continued on a major League One nightmare this season. Heading into their penultimate showdown of the year sat five points adrift of third-tier safety and in need of a famous miracle, the Robins’ relegation can officially be confirmed on Tuesday night. Getting April underway with another 2-1 loss against Exeter, Darrell Clarke’s downbeat squad have lost five of their previous six appearances and they will certainly be bracing themselves for another stern challenge here. With their League One struggle underlined by a 3-1 drumming against Bristol Rovers on April 13th, Cheltenham have also gained a reputation for their glaring issues on home soil. In fact, the midweek hosts have lost all of their previous five consecutive matchups at Whaddon Road by an aggregate score of 11-4.
As for the visitors, while Cheltenham might have endured an infamous League One rut this season, Peterborough have continued to receive a string of plaudits. Last seen over the weekend putting in another eye-catching performance as they secured a 2-0 victory away at Bristol Rovers, the Posh have breezed their way to a play-off ticket with time to spare. Making real history at Wembley on April 7th as they were crowned EFL Trophy champions, the mood in Darren Ferguson’s camp should be at a red-hot high. Making a real statement earlier in the month as they secured a 4-1 romp against Fleetwood, Tuesday’s guests will also be excited by their most recent showdown against the Robins. Storming their way to a 3-0 victory when they welcomed Cheltenham to London Road for their reverse League One meeting on September 19th, Ferguson will be calling on a repeat performance here. Likewise, landing an action-packed 3-2 win when they travelled to Gloucestershire last season, we are expecting a similar outcome.
