Competition: Chinese Super League

Market: Chengdu Rongcheng win

Odds: 2/5 @ BetUS

Looking to extend on their AFC Champions League charge this weekend, Chengdu will welcome Tianjin to the Phoenix Hill Stadium on Friday lunchtime.

Starting with the hosts, while Chengdu might have eventually missed out on the chance to claim a lucrative AFC Champions League ticket last season, Seo Jung-won’s men have their sights set on securing a top-three finish this time around. Last seen collecting a 1-0 victory away at Nantong, the Reds have now won all of their previous four appearances across all competitions. Signing off June with a dominant display as they cruised their way to a 4-0 romp against Cangzhou, the Sichuan-based outfit will be looking to make another statement here. With their recent purple patch highlighted by a 5-1 win away at Qingdao Hainiu last month, Friday’s hosts have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous nine straight matchups – a run that stems all the way back to May 5th. Holding a four-point buffer in the AFC Champions League chase, it should also be noted that Chengdu have won their last three showdowns at the Phoenix Hill Stadium by an aggregate score of 15-2.

As for the visitors, suffering a major second-half collapse at home against Changchun Yatai as they eventually had to settle for a 2-2 stalemate, Tianjin are seeking some much-needed stability. In fact, the Jinmen Tigers have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous six Super League appearances – a run that stems back to May 17th. Hit with a woeful 3-0 drumming when they welcomed Shanghai to town last month, Tianjin have shown some extended defensive issues. Almost sat in top-flight limbo, Yu Genwei’s men will also be concerned by a downbeat record against Friday’s hosts. Hit with an action-packed 3-2 loss when they welcomed Chengdu to the TEDA Soccer Stadium back on April 6th, they have also failed to win any of their five historic battles against the AFC Champions League contenders. Given what has been a recent gulf in class between Friday’s opponents, we are backing a home victory this weekend.
