Competition: MLS
Market: Columbus Crew win
Odds: 4/5 @ BetUS
Looking to extend on their remarkable purple patch, Columbus will welcome Seattle to Ohio in the early hours of Sunday.
Starting with the hosts, making real history on August 26th as they were crowned Leagues Cup champions thanks to a famous 3-1 romp against Los Angeles, Columbus are in the midst of what has become a record-breaking purple patch. Receiving a string of praise and with the mood around Ohio at an iconic high, Wilfried Nancy’s men will simply be looking to lay down another marker this weekend. Opening September with another sensational performance as they secured an action-packed 4-2 victory against New York City, the former Montreal boss has seen his record-breaking squad win all of their previous six competitive appearances across all competitions. Marking their return from the MLS’ summer interval with a 1-0 win away at Philadelphia, Sunday’s hosts have also lost just one of their last 13 showdowns – a run that stems all the way back to June 20th.
As for the visitors, while Seattle might have entered the MLS’ summer break enjoying their own respective flurry, the Sounders have come crashing back down to earth over the past few weeks. Watching their Leagues Cup campaign come to an end last month as they fell to a 3-0 drumming at the hands of domestic rivals LAFC, Brian Schmetzer’s men have lost three of their previous four appearances across all competitions. Likewise, crashing out of the US Open Cup on August 29th, the Greens have also shown some recent issues in the final third. Last seen in MLS action falling to a 1-0 defeat away at Portland, Sunday’s guests couldn’t have asked for a tougher challenge when they arrive in Ohio this weekend. Given what has been a notable recent gulf in class between Sunday’s opponents, we are backing a home victory here.
