Competition: FAI Cup
Market: Cork City win
Odds: 2/5 @ Pribet
Looking to book their FAI Cup quarter-final ticket on Saturday evening, Cork City will welcome the Finn Harps to Turners Cross.
Starting with the hosts, while Cork City might have lost their Premier Division status last season, the Rebel Army are breezing their way to an immediate top-flight return. Holding a remarkable 15-point buffer at the top of the First Division standings and with the mood around Turners Cross at a red-hot high, Tim Clancy’s men will be looking to make another statement here. Last seen clinching a gritty 1-0 victory against Friday’s guests, the former St. Patrick’s boss will be calling on a repeat display this weekend. Opening July with a thumping 3-1 win away at Wexford, Cork are rightfully pencilled in as a landslide contender on Saturday evening. In fact, along with a 4-1 romp against the Cobh Ramblers on June 13th, Clancy’s men have won all of their previous six matchups against First Division opposition by an aggregate score of 11-2. It should also be highlighted, Cork have not suffered a single defeat in front of their own supporters since opening up the 2022 campaign.
As for the visitors, while the Finn Harps might still sit in the driving seat to book a play-off ticket this season, Darren Murphy’s men are seeking some recent stability. Last seen falling to that 1-0 loss at the hands of Saturday’s hosts, the County Donegal-based outfit have collected just a single victory from any of their previous six First Division appearances. With their issues underlined by a routine 2-0 defeat against Cobh last month, the Blues certainly have an almighty challenge on their hands here. Failing to collect consecutive victories across any competition since the end of March, the Harps will also be concerned by their glaring struggles away from Finn Park. In fact, Murphy’s camp have failed to muster a single victory from any of their last eight consecutive showdowns on the road – a rut that stems all the way back to March 29th. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing a home victory this weekend.
