Competition: Championship
Market: Coventry win
Odds: 8/11 @ BetUS
Looking to secure back-to-back Championship victories on Boxing Day, Coventry will welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the Midlands in midweek.
Starting with the hosts, while Coventry might have opened up the 2023/24 campaign in the midst of a public struggle, last season’s play-off finalists have certainly claimed a recent boost. Last seen over the weekend putting in a stellar display as they breezed their way to a 3-0 romp away at Sunderland, Mark Robins’ men should be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Opening their Boxing Day showdown sat six points adrift of breaking into the top-six, the Sky Blues have lost just one of their previous eight Championship appearances. With that extended flurry stemming all the way back to November 4th, Coventry will also be excited by their continued success on home soil. Including opening December with a 2-0 victory against Birmingham, it should be highlighted that Robins’ side have suffered just a single second-tier defeat at the Building Society Arena since way back in the start of April.
As for the visitors, although Sheffield Wednesday might have opened December with a crucial boost, the Owls still find themselves as a standout contender to be hit with an immediate League One return. Last seen over the weekend getting hit with a 2-1 loss at home against Cardiff, Danny Rohl’s side have collected just 16 points from their first 23 Championship appearances this season. Opening their Boxing Day trip to the Riverside sat six points adrift of safety, Tuesday’s guests have also gained a reputation for their glaring issues on the road. Including a 3-1 drumming at the hands of Norwich on December 13th, Sheffield Wednesday have lost seven of their previous eight showdowns away from Hillsborough – a run that stems all the way back to a 0-0 stalemate against Leeds on December 2nd. Likewise, recording just a single away victory so far this season, we are expecting a home victory on Boxing Day.
