Competition: Brazil Serie B

Looking to make it three Serie B victories on the bounce in the early hours of Thursday, Sport Recife will travel to the Rei Pele when they meet CRB.
Starting with the hosts, while CRB might have fond themselves enjoying a real purple patch back in July, Daniel Paulista’s camp have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Last seen putting in another downbeat display as they fell to a 1-0 loss away at Vila Nova, the Reds are scrapping it out in the relegation zone and have a real battle on their hands in the race to keep hold of their second-tier status. Crashing out of the Copa do Brasil last month following a routine 3-0 loss against Atletico-MG, the former Guarani boss has not seen his squad muster a single victory from any of their previous 11 appearances across all competitions – a run that stems back to a 1-0 win against Ituano back on July 20th. Likewise, collecting just a sole point from any of their last seven Serie B showdowns, CRB have also gained a reputation for their issues in the final third. In fact, Thursday’s hosts have remarkably notched just a single strike since the end of July.
As for the visitors, although Sport Recife might have signed off August by losing each of their final three Serie B appearances by an aggregate score of 4-0, they have claimed a much-welcomed boost over the past fortnight. Last seen putting in an impressive display as they clinched a 2-0 victory away at Avai, the Lions have collected back-to-back wins for the first time since the middle of July. Now sat just four points adrift of finding a route into the promotion places, Pepa’s men face what is a real must-win showdown in the early hours of Thursday. Recording a first Serie B clean sheet since a 1-0 win away at Guarani back on July 7th, Sport Recife should be excited by their most recent showdown against the midweek hosts. Claiming a 2-0 victory when they welcomed CRB to town last season, Pepa will be calling on a repeat performance here. However, in a contest that tends to produce low-scoring outcomes, chances could come at a premium here.
