Bitesize Prediction: Crystal Palace vs West Ham – 24/08/24

Competition: Premier League

Market: Crystal Palace win

Odds: 11/10 @ Pribet

With London bragging rights up for grabs on Saturday afternoon, Crystal Palace will welcome West Ham to Selhurst Park.

Starting with the hosts, opening the 2024/25 campaign with a 2-1 loss away at Brentford, Crystal Palace will certainly be seeking an immediate response here. Nevertheless, despite missing out on what they had billed as a potential opportunity last week, Oliver Glasner’s side have gained plenty of plaudits since the former Eintracht Frankfurt arrived at Selhurst Park back in February. Heading into the summer interval with a real statement as they stormed their way to a 5-0 romp at home against Aston Villa, the Eagles won all of their final three Premier League appearances last season by an aggregate score of 12-1. Likewise, Palace remarkably collected 19 points from their final seven top-flight showdowns in south London. Picking up a 3-1 win when they met the Hammers for a pre-season showdown over in the United States on August 4th, Glasner’s men will be seeking a repeat display on Saturday afternoon.

As for the visitors, getting a new era underway this season following Julen Lopetegui’s arrival over the summer, West Ham are tipped as a potential European contender this year. However, getting the 2024/25 campaign underway with a 2-1 defeat at home against Aston Villa last weekend, the Hammers have struggled to find any real stability continuing on from their summer preparations. Shipping 74 Premier League goals last season and with only the relegated trio holding a worse defensive tally, the former Wolves boss will face another tricky test here. Hit with that 3-1 loss when they met Palace over in Tampa earlier in the month, West Ham hold a downbeat record against their London rivals. Including a 5-2 drumming when they travelled to Selhurst Park on April 21st, they have collected just a single point from any of their previous four Premier League battles. Likewise, continuing on from last season, Saturday’s guests have recorded just a single away victory since the start of March.
