Two nations who are still looking to pick up their first qualifying victory on Saturday night, Cyprus will welcome Georgia to the AEK Arena in Larnaca.
Starting with the hosts, although Cyprus might have signed off 2022 with a stunning 3-2 friendly victory away at Israel, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for Temur Ketsbaia’s squad. Opening their European Championships qualifying adventure with a routine 3-0 drumming away at Scotland on March 25th, the Blues are the only Group A contender that are yet to put a single point on the board. Likewise, last seen playing out what was an action-packed 2-2 draw against Armenia, the one-time Olympiacos boss will have a growing headache over his side’s extended defensive issues. Including a downbeat 5-1 defeat away at Kosovo last year, Cyprus have shipped at least a pair of strikes in each of their previous five appearances across all competitions. It should also be highlighted, Ketsbaia’s men have seen seven of their last nine showdowns at the AEK Arena finish with over 1.5 goals.
As for the visitors, opening their Group A adventure with a rugged display on home soil as they snatched a 1-1 draw against Erling Haaland’s Norway on March 28th, Georgia are enjoying what has been a hugely impressive flurry over recent times. Along with getting 2023 underway with a 6-1 friendly romp against Mongolia, Willy Sagnol’s men have remarkably lost just one of their previous 14 straight appearances across all formats – a run that stems all the way back to a 2-0 defeat against Greece in October 2021. With their purple patch underlined by a 3-0 victory away at North Macedonia 12 months ago, Georgia could be smelling the chance to make a qualifying statement on Saturday night. It’s also worth noting, with Sagnol’s high-flying squad seeing each of their last four away appearances finish with over 2.5 goals, we are expecting another enjoyable affair in Larnaca this weekend.
Bet: Over 1.5 goals at Cyprus vs Georgia 4/9 for Saturday’s EURO qualifying matchup @ Pribet
