Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: Derry City win
Odds: 2/5 @ BetUS
Two sides who find themselves scrapping it out at opposite ends of the Premier Division table, Derry City will welcome Dundalk to Brandywell on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Derry might have suffered Europa Conference League qualifying frustration last month as they fell to a 3-2 aggregate defeat against Gibraltar-based outfit Magpies, the Candystripes are enjoying another domestic flurry. Once again battling it out at the top of the Premier Division table and storming their way to another European finish this season, Ruaidhri Higgins’ men have lost just one of their previous nine domestic appearances across all competitions – a run that stems back to May 20th. Extending on their FAI Cup adventure on July 21st as they claimed a routine 3-0 romp against St. Patricks, Derry will also be excited by their remarkable success on home soil. Including a stunning 5-1 victory against Drogheda on June 28th, Friday’s hosts have won all of their last six consecutive showdowns at the Brandywell Stadium by an aggregate score of 15-2. Likewise, Higgins’ men have not suffered a single defeat in front of their own supporters sine back on April 19th.
As for the visitors, putting in a nightmare performance last week as they fell to a 2-0 loss at home against Galway, Dundalk find themselves at the heart of a real Premier Division crisis. Crashing out of the FAI Cup on July 19th thanks to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Drogheda, Jon Daly’s men face a real battle to keep hold of their top-flight status. Opening this weekend’s fixtures sat five points adrift of Premier Division safety, the former Irish champions have come under a huge amount of scrutiny. Mustering just a single win from any of their previous six domestic appearances across all competitions, the Lilywhites are pencilled in as a landslide underdog here. With just a single clean sheet to their name since the end of May, they should also be concerned by a woeful record at the Brandywell Stadium. Including a 4-1 drumming when they travelled to Derry back on April 5th, Dundalk have lost back-to-back trips to the European contenders by an aggregate score of 7-1.
