Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: Under 2.5 goals
Odds: 8/11 @ 888sport
In a showdown between two Irish giants making their return from the international break on Friday night, Dundalk will welcome Shamrock Rovers to Oriel Park.
Starting with the hosts, last seen heading into the international break with another professional display, Dundalk will be desperate to carry on from where they left off last month. Landing a gritty 1-0 victory at home against St. Patrick’s on May 27th, the former Premier Division champions were enjoying a stellar purple patch. Storming their way up the table and now tipped as a leading contender to grab a European finish, Head Coach Stephen O’Donnell should find the mood in his camp at a real high. In fact, the Lilywhites are currently in the midst of a seven-match unbeaten run, a run that has seen them land six victories. With their eye-catching run highlighted by a 2-1 win away at Derry City last month, Dundalk have also continued to shine on home soil. It should be highlighted, Friday’s hosts have won each of their previous six contests at Oriel Park.
As for the visitors, also last seen heading into the international break with a dominant display, it is no surprise that Shamrock are expected to storm their way to another Premier Division crown. Last seen on top-flight duties landing a 2-0 win at home against Shelbourne, the Irish giants are already holding a commanding eight-point buffer over the chasing pack. With it looking like their shock 1-0 loss away at Drogheda on May 23rd was just a minor blip, that is the only loss that Stephen Bradley’s side have suffered since the start of March. Simply hoping to widen their advantage at the top of the table on Friday night, Shamrock should also be boosted by their most recent meeting against Dundalk. Claiming a 1-0 victory when the two sides faced off back on April 18th, it should also be noted that each of their last three meetings have produced just a pair of strikes.
