In what could prove to be an enjoyable National League showdown on Tuesday night, Eastleigh will welcome Barnet to the Silverlake Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, while Eastleigh might have simply been in a battle to retain their National League status last season, the Spitfires are enjoying a stellar run of form this time around. Last seen over the weekend putting in another thumping display as they claimed an eye-catching 3-1 romp away at Southend, Lee Bradbury’s men have a play-off finish at the top of their agenda in 2023. With a 3-1 loss at the hands of Wealdstone their only fifth-tier defeat since the start of December, the Hampshire-based outfit have also gained a reputation for their continued success on home soil. Opening the New Year with a real flurry as they cruised their way to a 4-0 victory against Dorking, it should be highlighted that Eastleigh have collected nine points from their last four National League battles at the Silverlake Stadium – a run that stems back to November 12th.
As for the visitors, putting in their own remarkable display over the weekend, Barnet find themselves in an almost identical position to Tuesday’s opponents. Eventually breezing their way to a 3-0 romp at home against Chesterfield, the Bees are now tipped as one of the leading contenders to claim a play-off spot this year. Making a string of improvements after also just about clinging to their National League status last season, Dean Brennan’s men have suffered just a single defeat from any of their last 13 straight outings. With that run stemming all the way back to November 1st, the mood in Barnet’s camp should be at a real high. Likewise, without a fifth-tier defeat on the road since the start of October, we could be treated to an enjoyable affair in midweek. With Tuesday’s opponents seeing five of their last six meetings finish with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome.
