Competition: NPL Northern NSW
Market: Edgeworth Eagles win
Odds: 2/5 @ Pribet
Two sides firmly battling it out at opposite ends of the table, Edgeworth will welcome Adamstown to the Jack McLaughian Oval on Wednesday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Edgeworth might have eventually fallen short last season as they missed out on the chance to claim a play-off ticket, the Eagles have come roaring back in a sensational fashion this time around. Last seen over the weekend putting in another rampant performance as they stormed their way to a 4-0 victory against Newcastle Olympic, Peter McGuinness’ men are in the midst of a remarkable purple patch. Although they might have opened up the 2024 campaign with a real stutter, Edgeworth have now won all of their previous six consecutive appearances and the mood in their camp will certainly be at a red-hot high. Signing off April with a 4-1 victory away at Lake Macquarie, Wednesday’s hosts have also gained a fearsome reputation for their clinical edge in the final third. In fact, McGuinness’ side have won all of their last six straight outings by an aggregate score of 15-1.
As for the visitors, although Adamstown might have eventually clung to their NPL status last season, the Rosebuds are enduring another public struggle. Rightfully installed as a landslide relegation contender this time around, David Rosewarne’s side are sat rock-bottom of the table and certainly have an almighty challenge on their hands here. Last seen over the weekend putting in another nightmare display as they slumped to a routine 4-0 drumming at the hands of Charlestown, they have failed to muster a single victory from any of their 10 appearances so far this season. Likewise, along with registering just a pair of points from a possible 30, Wednesday’s guests have also lost all of their previous five outings on the bounce. Likewise, suffering an infamous 8-2 defeat at home against Broadmeadow on May 18th, it is no secret that Rosewarne’s side have gained a reputation for their glaring defensive issues. In fact, the Rosebuds have shipped 24 goals on their five-match losing rut.
